Old couple, grandparents in love.

We here at Common Health work with a lot of wonderful seniors in the South Florida area.

And one question we hear a lot is, “What is Medicare Open Enrollment?”

Let’s face it; Medicare Open Enrollment can feel like an overwhelming process.

There’s a lot of information to sort through and several decisions to make. But Common Health has plenty of experience with Medicare, and we’re here for you. We love to help people to thrive in their golden years and want you to feel confident in selecting your healthcare plan.

Common Health is here to provide a frequently asked question list about the Medicare Open Enrollment process, so you’ll have a few questions answered right off the bat. Let’s get started!

What is Medicare?

Medicare is a federal healthcare program for seniors 65 or older, younger people with disabilities, and those with End-Stage Renal Disease. This federal program is available for enrollment from October 15th – December 7th.

What are my Medicare options?

You have two options for medicare enrollment, Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage. Original Medicare includes Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance). While this is a more limited option, this is also more cost-effective. And depending on your medical needs, this may be the right option for you. Medicare Advantage is effectively a bundled version of Part A and Part B, and typically also includes Part D (Pharmacy). This plan also handles several areas not covered in Original Medicare, such as vision, hearing, and dental support.

Where do I get information about my plan options?

The best place to find information about plan options available to you is in your Medicare Handbook. This is available online and covers information about your coverage options and available plans in your area. Common Health can help you find options available to you and answer any questions that you may have.

How do I know what plan is right for me?

We recommend utilizing your Medicare Plan Finder to figure out a plan that works for you (https://www.medicare.gov/plan-compare/). This finder will help you select a plan that works for the prescription drugs you require as well as any other health needs that you want to be covered in your healthcare plan. This will also show the pricing for your prescriptions so you will know how much you’ll pay each month for your medication.

How do I get started?

We’d be happy to work with you to help you review your options and select any supplemental insurance you may need. Our friendly and knowledgeable team will be here to answer any questions you have. Medicare Open Enrollment is an excellent opportunity for you to get the care you deserve, so make sure you take the time to find a plan that works.

Ultimately, Medicare Open Enrollment can either be an overwhelming process that can be difficult to manage or one that offers you the chance to get the care you need. Our team at Common Health wants your experience to be the latter. And if you have any questions about other areas of retirement, we can help you with those too!
